The brief for this week was to take 3 portraits, each with a different focal length. One with a wide angle focal length, one with a normal focal length and one with a telephoto focal length.
I was shooting in Aperture Priority mode. The idea was to keep the aperture the same in each image and the composition remaining the same. Meaning the subject be the same size.
I have a camera with a crop sensor, so for my portraits I took them at 18mm, 37mm and 70mm (for my camera).
My subject is my husband Cameron, and I took these photos on his parent’s farm in country Victoria.
Shutter speed 1/8000 sec, f/5, ISO 2000, 30mm equivalent.
Shutter speed 1/8000 sec, f/5, ISO 2000, 60mm equivalent.
Shutter speed 1/8000 sec, f/5, ISO 2000, 110mm equivalent.
The next stage of the activity was to do the same thing again but with a landscape. This time however, instead of keeping the composition the same, we were to just stay in the same position and zoom in.
I had some trouble with low light, shooting too late in the day. Next time I will make sure I am out earlier!
Shutter speed 1/1000 sec, f/5, ISO 3200, 30mm equivalent.
Shutter speed 1/1250 sec, f/5, ISO 3200, 60mm equivalent.
Shutter speed 1/320 sec, f/5, ISO 3200, 110mm equivalent.
During this Module and activity I learnt a lot about different types of lenses and how important it is to choose the right lens for the image you are trying to capture.
I loved seeing the difference between the first three images, the background really comes to the foreground the more zoomed in the focal length is. Learning about the compression that happens was fascinating and I really enjoyed it.
In the Lens Fundamentals Quiz which was also part of this week’s activities, I got 80% after I misread a couple questions! But I’m still pretty happy with this score, being pretty new to everything photography.
