This first module for Light and Lighting has taught me a lot about light. The science behind light, the different types of light; warm, cool, soft, hard, diffused, reflected, and so much more.
In activity one I will use what I have learned to describe the light used in a set of images, and how these types of light make me feel.

This image was taken in a studio using artificial light. The harshness of the light combined with the shadows, contrast and the expression on the man’s face convey a sombre feeling. This image makes me feel like this man is in deep thought about something serious and/or upsetting.

I believe this image was taken indoors, using either ambient light from a window, or artificial light but it is soft so most likely a soft box was used. The light is cool and the feel of the image is calm. However I also feel there is deep thought and even sadness in the woman’s eyes.

I feel the even light on the girls in the image matches the playfulness of them blowing bubbles. They are back lit by natural light. It is possibly afternoon when the sun is getting lower as we can see shadows from the trees falling towards us and the light shining through the girls hair like a halo.

This image is very emotive. The natural light diffused by the clouds of the overcast day make it a soft light, but the coolness combined with the fog make me feel cold and gloomy.
In activity two I will choose my own found images that evoke my emotions as a result of the light or lighting and describe each again.

This photo is just breathtaking. The way the rays of light shine through the forest remind me of rays of hope. Despite the forest being quite dark, the rays are warm and the image makes me feel warm and hopeful.

This image makes me feel really uneasy. The cool diffused light combined with the fog make the image seem gloomy and even creepy. I feel cold looking at this image and it makes me feel uncomfortable.

The harsh light and contrast in this image along with the close up of the subject, make it feel very emotive. I feel like she is hiding away or she has a secret.

The warm light of this image matches the feelings of love and warmth on this couple’s wedding day. I feel warm and comfortable looking at this image. It feels romantic and happy thanks to that warm, diffused natural light.
